New discovery turns waste products into oil and natural gas

I hope this new technology that can recycle waste products into oil and gas, hits the mainstream, it might help to empty our massive landfill dumps Not to mention all those used tires they can't get rid of Frank Pringle has found a way to squeeze oil and gas from just about anything I’m not sure if I’m watching a magic trick, or an invention that will make the cigar-chomping 64-year-old next to me the richest man on the planet [b]Everything that goes into Frank Pringle’s recycling ma

Swedish female soldiers force military to emasculate heraldic lion

I wonder if they didn't realise that by definition a lion with mane is male Maybe they should have changed it to a female lion Protests from female soldiers have led to the Swedish military removing the genitalia of a heraldic lion depicted on the Nordic Battlegroup's coat of arms The armed forces agreed to emasculate the lion after a group of women from the rapid reaction force lodged a complaint to the European Court of Justice, Göteborgs-Posten reports But although the army

Stairway to Heaven ruined Led Zeppelin?

According to this interesting article Personally I think its a fantastic song However you can see how their other music is so different that StH is hardly representative of that catalogue While there are still many obstacles to a Zeppelin tour, the most vexing may be that Robert Plant will have to overcome his reluctance to sing the song that has done the most damage to the band Yes, "Stairway to Heaven" Variously described as "a song of hope" Plant, "an optimistic song" J

A talk with young German pseudo-Nazis

The young Germans engaged in discussion with the Jewish author of this article are people my age and younger While I am no expert on German people or culture, I did spend several years in Germany in the 80's when I was in the US Army I can tell you that we weren't really the most loved people on the planet to the German back then I was engaged in more than one physical altercation because I was an American breathing a German's air, but I always figured it was because some of my fellow

Terrorism in New Zealand - Tuhoe madness

Recently we have had the police in New Zealand conduct terrorist raids against armed Maori radicals conducting "terrorist" training camps deep in the Urewera forest Unfortunately the terrorist raids by the police were seen as a farce and lampooned the length of the country All arrested terrorists were released on minor charges Now however the police have unofficially released some documents outlining conversations from their wiretaps These quotes are from a 150 page document submit

New Zealand bans fat immigrants

So you want to immigrate to New Zealand but are a little on the tubby side Then you better lose some weight, fat people are banned from immigrating to New Zealand I suspect its a rule aimed at filtering out Pacific Islanders who'se people can be very overweight When they immigrate to New Zealand they become a drain on the local health system In the next post are some statistics on the terrible obesity epidemic Pacific Island people face Rowan Trezise, 33, has been left behind in E

Auto industry complains that it can't make cars that do 35mpg by 2020

Detroit is lobbying the government to relax the law that all cars must be able to do 35mpg by 2020 as too difficult a mark to achieve However people are starting to call for the automakers to be forced to work towards that goal http://blogwiredcom/cars/2007/11/american-automahtml http://wwwecogeekorg/content/view/1127/ What is crazy is that the European and Japanese automakers are at that level and beyond already! Why because petrol is more expensive in their societies a

Scientists Find Oldest Living Animal, Then Kill It

[quote]British marine biologists have found what may be the oldest living animal — that is, until they killed it The team from Bangor University in Wales was dredging the waters north of Iceland as part of routine research when the unfortunate specimen, belonging to the clam species Arctica islandica, was hauled up from waters 250 feet deep Only after researchers cut through its shell, which made it more of an ex-clam, and counted its growth rings did they realize how old it had been —

Neil Boortz' answer for stupidity

Neil Boortz is a syndicated radio talk show host, based out of Atlanta, Georgia While he is an hero to the secular libertarians of the US, he and I do not always agree This article is one of the points where he and I will simply have to disagree While I certainly understand what he is saying, and while I certainly feel his pain, his suggested solution is wholly unacceptable This article was written by a teenager and published in the school newspaper This article closely parallel

The 60mpg Hummer that does zero to 60 in 5 seconds, for $5000 conversion

This is great, some guy is converting heavy cars into fuel efficient rockets, using off the shelf technology that is affordable Great read Check it out It's actually a jet engine," says Johnathan Goodwin, with a low whistle "This thing is gonna be even cooler than I thought" We're hunched on the floor of Goodwin's gleaming workshop in Wichita, Kansas, surrounded by the shards of a wooden packing crate Inside the wreckage sits his latest toy--a 1985-issue turbine engine orig

Portable firefox with speed dial

I have just got a new USB stick as my last one died on me I installed Portable firefox 2 on it and added a new feature, first seen in Opera, called Speed dial Speed dial gives you thumbnails of your favorite pages and you can either see if they have been updated, or just click on them to load the page I set it at 25 pages, so the images are quite small, and the image below has been reduced by 50% to cut down the file siz, but its a darn nice little system I totally recommend it
