Military build up on Lebanese coast for attack on Syria and Iran

The greatest sea and air armada Europe has ever assembled at any point on earth since World War II is building off the cost of lebanon, far in excess of that needed for peacekeeping in Lebanon

The extraordinary buildup of European naval and military strength in and around Lebanon’s shores is way out of proportion for the task the European contingents of expanded UNIFIL have undertaken: to create a buffer between Israel and Hizballah.

Close investigation by DEBKAfile’s military and intelligence sources discloses that “Lebanese security” and peacemaking is not the object of the exercise.

It is linked to the general anticipation of a military clash between the United States and Israel, on one side, and Iran and possibly Syria on the other, some time from now until November
(much more on the site)

This expectation has brought together the greatest sea and air armada Europe has ever assembled at any point on earth since World War II: two carriers with 75 fighter-bombers, spy planes and helicopters on their decks; 15 warships of various types – 7 French, 5 Italian, 2-3 Green, 3-5 German, and five American; thousands of Marines – French, Italian and German, as well as 1,800 US Marines.

It is improbably billed as support for a mere 7,000 European soldiers who are deployed in Lebanon to prevent the dwindling Israeli force of 4-5,000 soldiers and some 15-16,000 Hizballah militiamen from coming to blows as well as for humanitarian odd jobs.

Ok, you know what? There are few times I am brave enough to throw the BS-flag-on-the-play in regard to Debka, but really, is Europe really wanting to mix it up with Iran even if the U.S. leads the way? Who all is doing business with Iran, making money from trade with them, and who wants to piss off Russia and China as will surely happen if we stomp the crud out of Iran?
Seriously, Iran MUST be dealt with before it is a deadly shadow looming of Israel, but I never really thought that Europe saw benefit in fighting Iran.

What do you hear in New Zealand in regard to the Iran situation, Netty?

All we hear about is our politicians making asses of themselves :)

If you took our news as an example of what is happening in the world, it would be a very peaceful place. Sometimes lead stories in the main 6pm TV coverage are lame domestic issues.

No kidding, we have tourists who come here and say its like the rest of the world ceases to exist once they step off the plane in new Zealand.

However Debka have been very explicit in this article, naming the ships, and the numbers of troops. Maybe there is some brinkmanship happening behind the scenes that may never get publicity. So that the threat of attack is a tool to gain political ends.

Yeah, it could be simple brinkmanship among governments, but our media hasn't ratcheted up the diatribe to warfooting status.
Of course, that could change and they could have John Q. Sixpack ready to armchair-command in a matter of weeks.

It seems Iran's Imanidiotinadinnerjacket is the one trying to do the ratcheting and the U.S. poli/war machine seems to ignore him for the most part. Sure, they keep us informed on the U.N. attempts to thwart his nuclear program, but beyond that it is Yawn City!

Imanidiotinadinnerjacket really does seem to have come out of the woodwork, and trying to become a media figure. Pity there is no one around with the courage to ask him the hard questions.

Questions such as "Since you are financing and arming Hezbollah at present to cause trouble in the Middle East with an explicit agenda to destroy another country, and then deny it. How the heck can the West be expected to trust you with Nuclear weapons?"

I kind of think that he might just want to come across as a flambouyant caricature so the West doesn't take him too seriously, but at the same time unstable enough to make us fear him so that we won't do what Debka suggests we are preparing to do, while at the same time be the hero to Shi'ites and anti-Western governments like Castro's and Chavez's.

While all this is going on, while he does more lying and double-speaking than even Washington D.C. can do (that in itself is amazing!) I think it is important that we do NOT forget out three options with Islam:

1) Accept Islam

2) Pay Jizya (a poll tax and along with it the second class status to the Muslim)

3) War against Islam and either defeat it or be conquored

While he smiles and laughs and yuks it up with over the hill CBS journalists, remember this is our options as far as he is concerned.
