A subway "hero"!

A US construction worker has been hailed as a hero after rescuing a student who had fallen onto the tracks at a New York subway station.

Mr Autrey jumped down onto the tracks and rolled with 19-year-old Cameron Hollopeter into the trough between the rails at 137th Street station Tuesday.

Mr Hollopeter, who had suffered a medical problem, was rescued just as a train was coming into the station.

Two cars passed over the men before stopping just inches above them.

The train operator had seen someone on the tracks and put the emergency brakes on.

This is truely amazing, he not only laid the guy between the tracks so that he wouldn't be hurt, he laid his own body on top of the person to stop his limbs from moving.

I am sure that many others, like me, will have thought "If only I could do that when the need arrises".

That is truly heroic; I would not have thought there would be enough clearance under the train.
That fine bloke must be on a well deserved high after that.
