A Canadian Coast Guard handout picture made available 20 April 2007 shows Canadian ships ice-bound off Newfoundland's northeast coast on 19 April 2007.

Coast guard icebreakers were smashing through a massive expanse of pack ice Wednesday in a bid to free about 100 sealing vessels stuck off Newfoundland's northeast coast and southern Labrador.
