Canadian police disguised as protesters try to manufacture a riot

Amazing. Police disguised as protesters with their faces covered try to create an aggressive situation at a protest.

They get found out by the crowd and both sides of the protest seem to turn against them.

What the heck is happening in Canada when the police take sides?

From below

Earlier this evening, The Star reported on what might somehow rank as one of the strangest videos on YouTube.

Recorded on Monday afternoon at the protests in Montobello, the video shows the tail end of a confrontation between Dave Coles (president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada) and three masked men who seem hell-bent on rilling up him, his fellow protestors ("old guys, grandmothers, grandfathers"), and the line of riot-ready police.

For a minute or so, it's just Coles being a good samaritan, trying to stop a potentially-violent confrontation and demanding that one of the men who picks up a rock put it down.

It's already extremely tense by the time that someone starts pointing at the masked protestors and chanting "policier!" Coles demands that the men take off their masks, and the majority of the crowd join him––some even reach for the bandannas themselves––and accuse the masked men of being cops, police provocateurs hired to start a riot.

When Coles actually looks at one of the men dead-on and says "you're a police officer," the masked men all freeze, seemingly dumb-struck. And then, they kind of start being aggressive again, until a little over two minutes in, when there's the weirdest police take-down you'll probably ever see.

Proof they were police - wearing police boots

And if you look at the second link, you can see that the police *(allowed them to) continue wearing their masks and sunglasses as they are walked off.

Canadian newspapers are starting to report it.

OTTAWA -- Protesters are accusing police of using undercover agents to provoke violent confrontations at the North American leaders' summit in Montebello, Que.

Such accusations have been made before after similar demonstrations but this time the alleged "agents provocateurs'' have been caught on camera.

A video, posted on YouTube, shows three young men, their faces masked by bandannas, mingling Monday with protesters in front of a line of police in riot gear. At least one of the masked men is holding a rock in his hand.

The three are confronted by protest organizer Dave Coles, president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada. Coles makes it clear the masked men are not welcome among his group of protesters, whom he describes as mainly grandparents. He urges them to leave and find their own protest location.

Coles also demands that they put down their rocks. Other protesters begin to chime in that the three are really police agents. Several try to snatch the bandanas from their faces.

Rather than leave, the three actually start edging closer to the police line, where they appear to engage in discussions. They eventually push their way past an officer, whereupon other police shove them to the ground and handcuff them.

Late Tuesday, photographs taken by another protester surfaced, showing the trio lying prone on the ground. The photos show the soles of their boots adorned by yellow triangles. A police officer kneeling beside the men has an identical yellow triangle on the sole of his boot.

Strange behaviour indeed. Somethings not right with those three masked individuals. Some undercover operation or something maybe. They found that getting arrested was the easiest way to escape from there.

Yep thats what it looked like to me.

Of course they might be just a part of a "rent a thug" scheme, police officers moonlighting as thugs for whoever hires them. It sounds like something that would happen in South America. I doubt there is an actual Police policy to create trouble like that.

The truth slowly comes out. The police begin to admit it.

Quebec provincial police admitted Thursday that three of their officers disguised themselves as demonstrators during the protest at the North American leaders summit in Montebello, Que.

However, the police force denied allegations its undercover officers were there on Monday to provoke the crowd and instigate violence.

"At no time did the police of the Sûreté du Québec act as instigators or commit criminal acts," the police force said in French in a news release. "It is not in the police force's policies, nor in its strategies, to act in that manner.

"At all times, they responded within their mandate to keep order and security."

Police said the three undercover officers were only at the protest to locate and identify non-peaceful protesters in order to prevent any incidents.
