Republican senator wants to pull out troops from Iraq

Watch how the rats jump ship as it slowly sinks into irrelevency.

The unfortunate effect of this piece of political showmanship is that if America does withdraw troops then no one in their right mind could ever trust America again to be a leader in troubled countries.

All the people who support America in Iraq and other countries, who believed that America just might succeed and stood with it, will be shafted and probably killed.

Cutting and running away is not an option for the country that precipitated the war and has the responsability over millions because of it. If it does then claims of "freedom", "committment", and "justice" are revealed as the empty political newspeak many fear they are.

America would have been better to have left Saddam in his country and saved untold misery from the the people of Iraq, if now they leave them to their doom..

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush should start bringing home some troops by Christmas to show the Baghdad government that the U.S. commitment in Iraq is not open-ended, a prominent Republican senator said Thursday.

The move puts John Warner, a former Navy secretary and one-time chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, at odds with the president, who says conditions on the ground should dictate deployments.

Warner, R-Va., said the troop withdrawals are needed because Iraqi leaders have failed to make substantial political progress, despite an influx of U.S. troops initiated by Bush this year.

The departure of even a small number of U.S. service members - perhaps 5,000 of the 160,000 troops in Iraq - would send a powerful message throughout the region that time was running out, Warner said.
