The Turkish Kurdish conflict pictures

There are many images of the Turkish forces massing on the Iraq border, but these are the only picture I found of their opposition, the effective, tough and tenacious Kurdish PKK.

After killing Turkish soldiers in Oct., the PKK has pushed the Turkish military to head for the Iraq border.

The Kurds call this area Southern Kurdistan.

The followers of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader and president of the rebel group, believe that he can lead the Kurds to freedom and independence.

The Turkish government has been holding Ocalan captive since he was captured in Kenya in 1999.

ANKARA, Turkey(FNC) — A Kurdish Web site on Tuesday displayed photographs of what it said were eight missing soldiers captured by separatist Kurdish rebels.

If confirmed, the seizure would be the largest since 1995, when guerrillas grabbed eight soldiers and took them to northern Iraq before releasing them two years later.

A more recent picture from the New York Times of Kurdish fighters on the Iraq Turkish border. I am surprised at the number of active women in a society that seems to be Muslim.

There is a popular misconception that Kruds are all Muslim. Their movement is basically a marxist movement and Kurds though initially a unified people now belong to different religions and sects.
