All together 20,351 Spitfires were built,no fewer than 50 are flying in the world today.This Spitfire is not a composite nor a facsimile but is a genuine factory built aircraft with no equal in New Zealand today,with all original equipment as fitted by the factory in 1944.This aircraft is not currently flying. It must have cost a LOT to get that thing to NZ. Shipping it half way around the world.

They say they are hoping to sell it for $5 million. I wonder if there are people in that part of the world who treasure these kinds of things enough to invest that kind of money.

I imagine it would be quite spectacular to go for a spin in that thing in NZ's south Island. :)

There is a warplanes show on right now in the South Island, :) Turns out quite a lot of old military planes are still flying around here.

Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) owns 3 WW1 biplanes, he would be top of the list to buy the Spitfire.
