Congolese children with wooden scooters - ingenuity in the face of deprivation

In a photo about UN peacekeepers in Congo, are some interesting scooters being used by the children. They look like they are entirely made out of wood, including wooden carved wheels.

United Nations peacekeepers from India drive their vehicle past Congolese residents of the city outside the United Mission for the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC) in Goma on November 21, 2008.

Here is another image of the wooden scooters.

Government soldiers transport looted goods on a wooden scooter after a day of fighting in the village of Kayna in eastern Congo, November 18, 2008. Demoralised Congolese government troops, retreating before eastern rebels, clashed on Tuesday with their own local militia allies who tried to make them stand and fight after the armed forces chief was replaced.
