The amazing Indian rope trick - still unsolved? Videos

The Indian rope trick is a magic trick from India that has baffled people for centuries. Any answers created to show how this works seem to make more questions that cannot be resolved.

Firstly you need a rope, and from the videos below its an ordinary rope, there are no solid links inside of it. Otherwise it wouldn't wind easily and P&T who handled it (second video) would feel them.

Secondly from a box that cannot hold a person, the rope emerges stiff and vertical.

Thirdly the rope can bear the weight of a child, and in some videos the child is at the top of the rope, which makes for strong forces to maintain the vertical.

Fourthly the rope returns to its flaccid state immediately on command.

So how might it be done?

An extra pole behind the rope - this might be the case in the first video but the second video it cannot be, as the camera is moving around the trick. Even if there is an external pole, where does it come from and who is moving it? When the rope collapses, where is the pole?

Something inside the rope itself, that becomes firm and then returns to flaccid. If so how is it that the rope is becoming firm in stages, and not all at once?

A solution is still needed.

Old video of the trick - this one might be faked.

And yet another version of the Indian rope trick

Yet again on this video, there cannot be anything external to the rope, such as a pole because of the crowd.
