Rugby fan wins 250,000 for making an impossible kick - video

Man comes out of the crowd at a rugby match at Wembly Stadium and kicks the ball barefooted to win 250,000 for hitting the crossbar. Crowd and announcers go wild.

He was one of three people called out of the crowd of more than 46,000 after responding to the "crossbar challenge" organized by Saracens and, in his socks, came up with the goods.

Mr Tinner, who plays hooker for Welwyn's lower teams, had to punt a rugby ball 30 metres aiming to hit the crossbar at half-time during the match.

He removed his shoes, took up his stance after talking to Francois Pienaar, South Africa's 1995 World Cup-winning captain and now a director on the Saracens board, and launched his effort - to his surprise, and that of the entire crowd, he connected and leaped in the air in excitement.

"I really can't believe it," he said after the dancing girls clustered round, leaving his two competitors to go through the motions - unsuccessfully, though had they also hit the bar they would have been entitled to a share of the cash. "It's an amazing feeling, I'm still in a daze. It won't change me, I'm still going to work in the morning but what a night it's been.

I hope to buy a flat and a new car with the money.
